DxDempsey  Architecture |  Design | Planning was founded in 2003 by Michele Dempsey, AIA, LEED AP.  Located in Scranton, PA, the firm is known for its commitment to thoughtful, sustainable architecture.  DxDempsey believes in creating unique, innovative and idiosyncratic designs that empower and inspire by transforming our relationship to our environment and our experience of place. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Michele B. Dempsey, AIA, LEED AP
 President 

Michele received her Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and her Bachelor of Arts in Engineering  from Lafayette College.   Michele opened the doors of DxDempsey in August of 2003. 
 
Prior to this she gained her professional experience at the Philadelphia office of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Architects and the Washington D.C. office of Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and Planners.  Both of these firms have won the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Firm of the Year Award—the highest honor bestowed on a firm by the organization. 
  
Michele is a LEED Accredited Professional and is committed to a practice of thoughtful, sustainable architecture.  She is passionate about finding innovations in architecture, which includes figuring out how to minimize its implications on the environment.  She not only makes a point of incorporating sustainable principles in all the work her firm produces, but she also takes much of her personal time to educate the general public on how to live a green lifestyle.  She is often asked to speak as an expert on this topic and has helped organize several green educational events. Michele is regularly a guest critic at Penn Design, the University of Pennsylvania's School of Architecture.
  
Michele has a breadth of experience that encompasses major government and academic buildings, space planning and office fit-out, planning projects, and private residences.  She is adept at collaborating with individual clients as well as large, diverse client groups.  Michele works closely with clients from the early phases of projects through completion.  She is effective at balancing quality design, schedule and budget.  Michele values an interactive working relationship and strives not only for extraordinary design, but also for extraordinary client satisfaction.
 
 
 

Timothy I. McLain, Jr.
Associate

Tim received his Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from The University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. Tim’s experience over the past 10 years includes practice in award winning, nationally known firms ranging from Gensler L.A. to small boutique firms in NYC. The extent of this experience has led to a variety of projects including work on large scale master plans for Universal CityWalk, ABC Entertainment in Century City, the Las Vegas Monorail, the National Bank of Kuwait, and a variety of high end retail, corporate and residential design projects around the US, as well as academic and educational facilities, private residences, entire building renovation & business relocation, and custom furniture design.
 
Prior to joining DxDempsey as an Associate in 2008, Tim worked with Hemmler + Camayd Architects exclusively as a Project Architect on a 100,000 square foot Student Residence at The Moravian College Hurd Campus in Bethlehem, PA. The new building includes four class rooms, a café, a wellness center and apartments/suites for 240 students.
 
Tim continues to serve DxDempsey primarily as a Project Manager on various projects in the office.  Most recently, his involvement includes the fit out and relocation of Physicians Health Alliance and the ongoing renovation & expansion of the Backyard Ale House in Scranton as well as the Misura Retail environments in the Monte Carlo, MGM Grand, Mirage, and Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
 
Tim is involved with several boards including The American Cancer Society, First Friday Scranton, and Power! Scranton as Volunteer Coordinator.  He also works with the Program Advisory Committee at ITT Technical Institute and is frequently a guest critic of student work at the Marywood School of Architecture.
 
 

Michael Muller
Associate
 
Mike received his Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degrees from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Georgia. He graduated with honors.  While at SCAD, his student work was consistently selected for display within numerous college galleries as well as the Savannah International Airport.  His thesis focused on developing haptic architectural environments and investigating how participants experience space using all of their senses.
 
Mike has practiced architecture in his hometown of Scranton since 2002.  He worked for several years with Hemmler + Camayd Architects where he provided design direction and support on a variety of award winning projects, including Marywood University’s School of Architecture, College Misericordia’s Insalaco Hall, Scranton Prep’s Arts and Science addition, and Mount Airy Resort and Casino.  During his time there, he led the implementation of the state-of-the-art software programs to consistently create photo-realistic architectural renderings and animations.
 
Additionally,  he serves as adjunct lecturer at Marywood University in the Interior Architecture program.  Coursework focuses on preparing students for real world design scenarios and maximizing computer technologies to effectively communicate design intent.
