Lake Ariel Residence

This residence uses the formal and material vocabulary of the Coal Breaker House to give it historical and regional allusion. This, along with its careful site analysis and positioning, ensures the structure’s sensitivity to the nature of its place.

The formal vocabulary of the Coal Breaker House maintains its integrity which is expressed through the use of cascading shed volumes supported by exposed structures. The material vocabulary stays true to the vertical wood siding, corrugated metal and heavy timber beams which are all consistent elements found in the majority of breaker houses.

Features such as pop-outs, overhangs and sunscreens articulate the facades while augmented interior space and sun protection provide functional needs.
